VI Children’s Team Benefits From Sport Newcastle Donation

Sport Newcastle’s Mike Booth visited one of Newcastle United Foundation’s Disability Football sessions last night to see in person how their funding is benefitting our participants.

The Foundation used the funding from Sport Newcastle to purchase sound balls for our Visually Impaired (VI) and blind children’s football team, which meets on a Wednesday evening.

In addition to developing football skills the sessions helps build a social support network for participants and helps develop confidence.

The VI group is just one of a number of specialised Disability teams delivered by the Foundation, which also supports children with learning difficulties as well as Deaf, Celebral Palsy, Downs Syndrome, Wheelchair, Amputee and Blind groups.

Mike Booth, of Sport Newcastle, said: “It has been fantastic to come down and see for myself how Sport Newcastle’s funding has been spent. These sessions are great fun and we’re delighted to have been able to support the purchase of new equipment.”

Disability Football Coach Reggie Dornan added: “We’re really grateful to Sport Newcastle for their support of the Visually Impaired team. Whatever sport you play, it’s always exciting to get new equipment – it can make a massive difference – the team have been so excited and have really enjoyed showing off their skills to Mike tonight.”
