Northumberland Children’s Trust Continue PL Kicks Funding
Newcastle United Foundation is thrilled to announce Northumberland Children’s Trust have agreed to renew their funding for the Premier League Kicks programme in Berwick and Ashington.
The Trust will provide £6,000 to be split between the two sites, matching funding from the Premier League, and ensuring the Foundation is able to continue to deliver free football provision in the area.
Funds will be put towards staff costs, pitch and venue hire, as well as competitions and community workshops delivered through the programme.
Backed by the Premier League, Sport England and other regional partners, PL Kicks allows the Foundation to deliver free football sessions at 12 different venues across Newcastle, North Tyneside, Gateshead and Northumberland, 48 weeks a year.
The programme aims to increase participation in sport, provide opportunities for young people to develop their skills and confidence, whilst providing a positive outlet and reducing rates of anti-social behaviour.
83 young people are currently signed up to the initiative in Ashington and 118 in Berwick with 40 young players attending each week.
Rachel Bickerdike, Business Development Manager at Newcastle United Foundation said: “We are delighted that Northumberland Children’s Trust are continuing their support of our Kicks programme.
“Their generous gift will go a long way to helping us continue the important work we are doing with our participants in the local community.”
