The Foundation’s digital 2021/22 annual review documents an extraordinary recent chapter for the charity and a period of significant growth across the organisation.
A total of 69,849 participants of all ages, abilities and from all backgrounds accessed free Foundation programmes during the 2021/22 period – participation levels exceeding pre-covid engagement.
From wellbeing and sport to education, the Foundation has delivered thousands of hours of activity for North East communities, including more than 1,000 Premier League Kicks football sessions hosted for eight to 18-year-olds from Berwick to Gateshead with 880 hours of educational activities for young people delivered in the charity’s new base in Newcastle.
Of all the children, young adults, families and older generations enjoying new opportunities with the charity, thousands were among the first to make use of innovative and inspiring spaces at the opening of the Foundation’s new home – NUCASTLE, powered by Newcastle Building Society.
Officially opened by former Newcastle United striker and Newcastle United Foundation Trustee Shola Ameobi in March 2022, the latest annual review shares the story of NUCASTLE and the community who helped create a new home for everyone in the region.
Steve Beharall, Newcastle United Foundation CEO, said: “We are thrilled to share our 2021/22 annual review with our community – it is our opportunity to reflect on what has been a hugely significant chapter in our charity’s recent history.
“While continuing to navigate challenges presented by the pandemic, we entered this 12-month period with ambition and a promise to provide meaningful opportunities through our wide-ranging activity.
“The opening of our community hub, NUCASTLE, made possible by overwhelming support from our stakeholders has been key to bringing our vision to life – raising aspirations and creating opportunities for all.
“Everything we do and the positive impact we create is all testament to the incredible support and hard work delivered by our staff, funders, partners, donors, Newcastle United and the Premier League. It is with their dedication our latest annual review highlights the power of community to create positive change.”
