Would-be footballers of all ages enjoyed a day to remember scoring in front of the Gallowgate End and having a kickabout at Newcastle United Football Club’s training centre in support of Newcastle United Foundation.

Teams of corporate colleagues followed in the footsteps of Newcastle United greats as the official charity arm of the club once again hosted its corporate cup at St. James’ Park.

After battling for the Newcastle United Foundation Corporate Cup in 11-a-side games, the team from Jackson Hogg emerged as overall winners on the day.

And the next generation of Premier League players laced up their boots for the first Play at the Training Centre experience for children and teenagers. More than 250 young people aged five to 15 enjoyed coaching sessions like no other on United’s training pitches at the Club’s Benton base.

Delivered by the Foundation’s UEFA-licensed coaching leading small-sided games for aspiring young footballers, participants enjoyed playing in a professional training environment for the first time.

Steve Beharall, Newcastle United Foundation CEO, said: “Providing meaningful opportunities for our community is at the heart of what we do at Newcastle United Foundation so to provide experiences like Play on the Pitch is truly unique to our organisation.

“We are pleased to share coaching sessions and tournaments with our community and we are grateful as always to Newcastle United for their generosity and support in helping us provide unforgettable opportunities for our participants.”

Play on the Pitch events at St. James’ Park and at Newcastle United’s training centre are hosted in support of the Foundation’s charity work across the North East – through community, education, health and wellbeing, and sports programmes delivered across Newcastle, Northumberland, North Tyneside and Gateshead.
