Bringing together schoolchildren from across the North East who engage with the Foundation through the charity’s Primary Learning and NU Futures programmes, young participants were thrilled to kick off the eighth annual event earlier this month.
Teams of primary and secondary pupils from 11 North East schools joined the event with each child receiving a new 2024/25 season Newcastle United kit to wear during the Cup to take home as a memento of the day.
Every participant was also awarded a medal for taking part in the tournament. The 1892 Cup was presented to the winning boys’ and girls’ teams, while the runners-up received a Foundation Plate.
Andy Foster, Director of Programmes and Impact at Newcastle United Foundation, said: “The 1892 Cup is the highlight of the year for our young participants who we have been supported through our Primary Learning and NU Futures programmes in schools.
“It is a privilege to provide this unique opportunity for schoolchildren to experience playing at Newcastle United’s Academy. A Wor Flags display also created a matchday atmosphere for the young players.
“We know it makes a huge difference in their lives to have experiences like this, and each participant now owns their own Newcastle United kit to wear with pride made possible by Newcastle United Football Club and adidas.”
Newcastle United Foundation’s education team engages with more than 140 schools across the North East each year, delivering curriculum-based activities inside and outside the classroom, furthering the impact of Newcastle United in the community.
