Kell Watts kicks off new week of Newcastle United Foundation Holiday Courses with surprise Wallsend visit
Young footballers spending their summer with Newcastle United Foundation enjoyed a surprise visit from one of Newcastle United’s rising stars this week.
Kell Watts, who made his debut for the Magpies during their final game of the 2019/20 season against Liverpool, joined youngsters on the pitch at Wallsend Boys Club on Monday afternoon.
The 20-year-old kicked off the Holiday Course in style for boys and girls attending afternoon sessions with the Foundation for the week.
As well as having a kickabout with Kell and taking him on in passing and defending drills, each group of players were able to ask the defender questions about his career and his experience of playing at St. James’ Park.
Newcastle United Foundation launched Holiday Courses for summer 2020 after extensive consultation with parents and guardians to help shape sessions in line with robust new safety measures.
Holiday Courses see boys and girls of all abilities invited to learn, play and have fun on the football pitch with new friends and the Foundation’s professional coaching staff during school holidays.
Kell joined the next generation of footballers at Wallsend Boys Club, with Holiday Courses also running at Lemington Football Centre and Consett AFC.
Further venues confirmed and available to book for August and September include Goals Newcastle at Gosforth, Ellington Juniors FC in Northumberland, Consett, Wallsend and Lemington.
Holiday Courses are open to children in Year 2 to Year 7 and operate from Monday to Thursday. To ensure everyone’s safety, the Foundation has introduced three-hour sessions per day for players to join morning or afternoon sessions for the week.
