Itโs A Slam Dunk For Newcastle United Foundation In Premier League 4 Sport Basketball Finals
The Newcastle United team from Sacred Heart School and St Marys School, fought off the competition in the Premier League 4 Sport Basketball final, where the Magpies came out on top.
In the 3 v 3 tournament, the girls in black and white comfortably beat Manchester United, Stoke City and Hull on the road to the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield last week, with Newcastle United victorious with a 5 -2 triumph.
Orieoma Chukwu-Etu, Newcastle United player and also crowned Street Ball Champion, said:
“I have had a brilliant day at Sheffield playing in the PL4S national finals.ย
โThe atmosphere throughout the day was amazing and the fact that we won was just the best.ย I can’t wait for next year.”
Susan Hunter, from Newcastle Eagles, spoke of the PL4S programme:
“The national finals provide a fitting finale to the PL4S programme each year.ย
“It gives the players throughout the year something to work towards.ย The 3 v 3 format is brilliant giving satellite basketball more of a street feeling instead of the traditional 5 v 5 format.ย
โAll of the teams played brilliantly today and I know they have all enjoyed the experience. All of the players are begging to come back next year!”
Premier League 4 Sport Basketball is a partnership between Basketball England, Sport England and the Football Premier League. The programme is run by satellite clubsย within Premier League teams who run special sessions to get as many young people as possible into basketball in the community.
