Great North Run Fundraisers Raise Record Amount
Fundraisers raised a record £6,000 for Newcastle United Foundation after taking on the Great North Run last Sunday.
The runners took on the infamous 13 mile course to raise funds for the Foundation and to raise awareness of the work the charity does in the region. Some of the fundraisers chose to fundraise for the charity because they have experienced Foundation programmes first hand and wanted to give something back.
Those participating had the opportunity to benefit from the expertise of the Foundation Health and Wellbeing team in the months before the event where they could attend training sessions, learn about body maintenance and warm up/warm down techniques. These sessions also gave attendees to ask any questions they had about nutrition and training.
David Langhorne, Director of Property Services at Your Homes Newcastle and Chairman of Bedlington Town FC said: “The Foundation is a charity that I have supported before, having seen first-hand the benefits they deliver to disadvantaged children and families within the communities throughout our great region. Having already slept rough to raise funds, the next challenge was to run the Great North Run. It was my first experience of the run and it was truly unforgettable. I can’t wait for next year!”
Newcastle United Foundation Fundraising and Events coordinator, Jennifer Rea, added: “We had a range of runners fundraising for us – some of them absolute beginners – and I’m so proud of them all! We really appreciate the commitment and effort they have put in. It’s fantastic to see how much money the team have raised – well done and thank you!”
