Coronavirus: A message from Newcastle United Foundation head

Coronavirus: A message from Newcastle United Foundation head

As we all make changes and arrangements to help prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), I wanted to share our plans in response to the ongoing pandemic.

As you know, our charity’s mission is to connect, motivate and inspire the communities around us, offering extra support to the most vulnerable in society.

During this crisis, it is clear that we are needed more than ever. With this in mind, we are identifying safe opportunities for staff to engage with the community where possible.

What we’re doing:

  • A team of 29 members of staff redeployed across our Primary Stars and partner schools programmes to assist with activity at schools remaining partially open
  • Eight team members now work out of Benfield School in Newcastle, assisting with delivery of food parcels for children who would normally receive free school meals
  • Calling elderly participants who would attend Walking Football to check-in on their physical and mental wellbeing
  • Calling Newcastle United season ticket holders as part of our United As One work to support individuals in isolation
  • Offering assistance to Fareshare and other organisations in need of support, with a response team on standby
  • Live streaming quizzes on our Be A Game Changer Facebook page
  • Broadcasting a live MANvFAT talk show next month
  • Signposting vulnerable participants to relevant support
  • Compiling online home-schooling resources for parents and guardians
  • Supporting Academy, Club and Foundation staff with home-schooling and mental health awareness resources

As ever, we are working closely with regional and national agencies and partners to form a robust network equipped to offer help wherever it is needed.

Our website and social media channels will be updated regularly with the latest guidance and news from the Foundation, as well as tips on self-care for your physical and mental health during periods of self-isolation.

From everyone at the Foundation, thank you for your ongoing support and patience. Please do not hesitate to get in touch by emailing

Kind regards,

Steve Beharall

Head of Newcastle United Foundation
