Benfield Schools In Battle Of The 5 A Sides

Newcastle’s own Benfield School played their part in the BBC’s Sport Relief Battle of the 5 a side last week where they represented Team Shearer in a 60 hour fundriasing effort against Team Savage at Old Trafford.

The Sport Relief battle of the five-a-sides was a 60 hour long football game that puts teams up against each other playing alongside captain’s Alan Shearer or Robbie Savage. Benfield School Girls team represented Team Shearer, beating Team Savage 9 – 5 in their match.

Overall, Team Shearer won by 547 goals to 529 goals with the event raising a whopping £370,592 for Sport Relief.

Sport Relief funding and projects help people living extremely tough lives both in the UK and around the world’s. 

Gavin Ferry, Newcastle United Foundation Project Co-ordinator, said “The Sport Relief Battle of the Five a sides was a fantastic football event and the girls from Benfield school were thrilled to have the opportuntiy to take part.  It was brilliant to see they playing alongside their Toon hero, Alan Shearer! It’s great to have been able to support such a great cause and help raise funds for projects, including some of our own, that are funded by Sport Relief.”
