APPLY TO TRIAL: Foundation Football And Education Scholarship Programme

Applications are now open for the Newcastle United Foundation’s Football and Education Post 16 Development Programme!

The two year programme gives talented young players between the ages of 16 and 18 the chance to combine academic studies with practical football experience and is designed to bridge the gap between grassroots and academy football.

As a student-athlete on the programme, players will represent Newcastle United Foundation in a National Football Youth League travelling up and down the country to play against other Premier League and Football League representative teams.

As well as playing and training in NUFC kit, our students will receive training from our highly qualified coaching team. They will also have access to strength and conditioning training weekly, have access to physiotherapy and have the opportunity to access video analysis.

Newcastle College will facilitate the education element of the programme and support players through a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (dependant on GCSE grades). In addition, they will also receive a range of sports related qualifications, including their FA Level 1 Coaching qualification, as well as giving them the necessary experience to work within community football coaching and other areas of the sports industry.

The course will be based from our partner venue Consett AFC, who were voted Mirror awards football club of the year in 2017. Consett AFC’s men’s first team play in the Northern League First Division and they oversee over 40 junior football teams. The club will be supporting our player development by providing additional playing opportunities within their club set up.

Football Development Manager, Andrew Dobby said “We are really excited to start the new season. Our football and education scholarship programme is a fantastic opportunity for young people keen to develop their talent on the football pitch whilst working towards a career in football coaching, the sports industry or wishing to progress to University.”
