Zumtobel Group United Claim Foundation Cup!

Zumtobel Group United were named Foundation Cup 2017 winners at St. James Park as part of Newcastle United Foundation’s Play on the Pitch fundraising day, sponsored by Newcastle University Business School and Northumbria University Law School.
The winners fought off stiff competition from company rivals Zumtobel Group City, eventually winning the Final 1-0
Reece Group (team 3) faced Ward Hadaway in the Foundation Plate final, claiming a 2-1 victory to take home the silverware
Twenty teams from organisations across the region competed in the five a side tournament, which is in its second year, including: Barclays, Reece Group, Ryder Architecture, Mediaworks, PTM Group, Wates Group, Pulsant, Newcastle United, and last year’s winners, Muckle LLP.
After the tournament over 400 children aged between 5-14 took part in one hour coaching sessions on the hallowed turf.  The Foundation’s Downs Syndrome and Deaf teams also enjoyed their weekly training session at the home of the Magpies instead of their usual venue.
The fundraising day was also supported by volunteers from Tesco Bank, Barclays and the Foundation’s NCS participants.
Sarah Medcalf, Development Manager at Newcastle United Foundation, said: “We would like to thank every single person that supported our Play on the Pitch fundraising day – we have raised well over £20,000 for the Foundation, which will support projects that will help the most disadvantaged people in our community.
“I would especially like to thank Newcastle United, for donating use of the pitch to us, our sponsors, Newcastle University Business School and Northumbria University Law School, Molson Coors, for donating the post match beers for the corporate tournament, and our volunteers, who were absolutely brilliant all day.”
