Toon Fans Enjoy Festival Of Football
Over 1500 children and adults visited St. James’ Park for Newcastle United Foundation’s free indoor Festival of Football, supported by the Big Lottery Fund.
With fun football themed activities, including the Foundation inflatable, taking pride of place, visitors also had the opportunity to learn through Newcastle University’s Street Science initiative and Northumbria University’s Skills Challenge.
The Foundation was delighted to also welcome Northumbria Police, who brought along their police van and riot equipment, and the Tyne and Wear Fire Brigade, whose Fire Engine was hugely popular with visitors.
The visiting football fans were also given the opportunity to have a mini stadium tour, taking in all the best bits, including a visit to the dressing rooms and making their way down the players tunnel to pitchside.
The Animal Man and face painters were particularly popular with younger visitors, who were massively excited to meet Toon legends Monty and Maggie!
Adam Herczeg, Senior Project Officer at Newcastle United Foundation, said: “We were totally overwhelmed by how popular the Festival of Football was – the 1500 free tickets were claimed in less than 48 hours! It was fantastic to have so many people join us at St. James’ Park for a day of fun activities and even a little bit of learning. I’d like to thank everyone who came along for making it a brilliant day and the Big Lottery Fund for their much appreciated support”
