This Girl Can With Women And Girls Project

Newcastle United Foundation are getting involved with the nation-wide campaign, This Girl Can! See how you can get involved.

As part of the This Girl Can campaign, the Foundation are highlighting our Women and Girls project – a female only programme that is funded by The FA, Premier League and Northumberland FA. The main objective for this project is to focus on girls aged 14+ who do not already play for a club, with the intention of signposting them to local community clubs.

This Girl Can is a national campaign developed by Sport England and a wide range of partnership organisations. It’s a celebration of active women up and down the country who are doing their thing no matter how well they do it, how they look or even how red their face gets. To see more about our Women and Girls project, please visit our website and check out our video http://www.nufoundation.org.uk/about-us/projects

To kick start the campaign, we have a girl’s only fun day running at Killingworth Young People’s Club on Friday 17th April 2015. See flyer for details.

To encourage female participation in the great game, we also have our FA Player Development Centre – a female only programme aligned with the aims of the F.A, is to identify players of excellent ability and place them in a technical and educational programme designed to develop football excellence in tandem with personal development. The principle objective is to create a relaxed learning environment in which players can develop at a pace that suits each individual player.

Lisa Bell, Football Development Officer at the Foundation said:

“This is a fantastic opportunity to help engage more females into sports.

“This Girl Can campaign will be able to reach out to hundreds of girls who may not have been comfortable to get active previously. We are happy to play a part in this exciting opportunity.”
