Sport Newcastle’s 50th Anniversary Set To Support Female Coaching Programme
After 50 years of supporting grass roots sport and helping to develop the rising sports stars of the future Sport Newcastle is ‘stepping’ up its fund raising activity in its fiftieth year!
The aim is to raise a further £50, 000 during its anniversary year, through various fund raising activities, and to help them on their way they have enlisted World Record holder and Olympic gold medallist Jonathan Edwards CBE to help create awareness and support their fund raising efforts.
Newcastle United Foundation’s Female Coach Mentoring Programme has been selected as one of the beneficiaries of the fund. The Foundation will recruit and train five assistant female coaches aged 16+. Each trainee coach will work alongside an experienced and highly qualified Foundation football coach for 40 one hour sessions. Each will receive 1:1 support and mentoring throughout the 18 week programme. By the end of their training the young women will be equipped to work as football coaches and to act as role models for young female footballers.
Malcolm Dix, President of Sport Newcastle, said, “We aim to raise £50,000 in 2017 to celebrate 50 years supporting North East Sport. I’m delighted to announce £20,000 will go to four key projects that exemplify the beliefs of Sport Newcastle. These are the Eagles Community Foundation, Hat-Trick, the Newcastle United Foundation and the Falcons Community Rugby Foundation.
“Personally I’ve been involved with Sport Newcastle for the last 40 years so it gives me great pleasure to announce our next phase of funding to help develop grass roots sport in the region.”
Jonathan Edwards, said, “I am delighted to support Sport Newcastle’s important work helping young people realise their sporting potential and dreams.”
Kate Bradley, Head of Foundation, added: “We’re hugely grateful to Sport Newcastle for selecting us as a beneficiary for their 50th Anniversary. They have made a real impact in North East sport and we’re proud to have worked with them to develop the Female Coach Mentoring Programme. This is an extension of a programme that we first trialled with Sport Newcastle last year, with great success. We’re looking forward to working with the next generation of female coaches!”
Sport Newcastle is a registered North East Charity and has so far donated over £2.5 million to local sport development.
