Premier League 4 Sport 2016 Regional Awards Evening

Newcastle United Foundation made the trip to Hull City Football Club for the PL4S 2016 Regional Awards that were held on Sunday 13th March.

It was a great opportunity for coaches, volunteers and participants from Hull Tigers Trust, Newcastle United Foundation, The Foundation of Light, Middlesbrough FC Foundation, Sheffield Wednesday Foundation and Leeds United Foundation to come together to celebrate the success of the programme over the last 16 months

All clubs made nominations for the following categories – Coach of the Year Award, Team Achievement Award, Young Sports Achievement Award, Unsung Hero Award and Special Achievement Award. All winners were chosen by Siobhan Atkinson, Community Development Executive for the Premier League.

NUF had a successful day picking up the following awards:

Coach of the year – Dave Godbold (Table Tennis)

Highly Commendable Young Sports Achievement Award – Adam Webster (Table Tennis)

Highly Commendable Team Achievement Award – Girls Under 16’s Basketball Team

Unsung Hero Award – Susan Hunter (Basketball)

Highly Commendable Special Achievement Award – Alan Hedley (Table Tennis)

Susan Hunter Club Development Manager for Newcastle Eagles said “High hopes were placed on the girls’ basketball team as we attended the second annual PL4S regional awards at the Hull KC Stadium.  The girls had done amazing in the PL4S national finals last year finishing in the top spot.  The players have gone on to achieve so much since then and I couldn’t have been more proud when they received the Highly Commended Team Achievement award.  To hear my name mentioned as one of the nominees for the Unsung Hero category I was more than just lost for words so to hear my name being announced as the winner came as even more of a shock.  I am so lucky to get the opportunity to work with so many amazing young people in a sport I love and couldn’t do it without the support of Lisa Bell and Newcastle United Foundation”

PL4S Coordinator for NUF Lisa Bell said “it was a great day for everyone involved in the PL4S, it is always nice for people to be recognised for the hard work and dedication they have shown since the project began as without them the programme would not be where it is today”
