Power Chair team promoted to Premier Division!

Newcastle United Foundation’s Power Chair football team has been promoted to the Premier Division for next season as a result of winning the North East Regional Power Chair Championship League for the last two years.

As with the First Team, planning and training for the first set of fixtures, which will take place on 3rd September in Middlesbrough, is all under way. The Power Chair team needs to add to its squad and, excitingly, is currently speaking to two players with Premier League experience who the Foundation hopes will join the team in due course.

Newcastle United Foundation Disability Coach, Reggie Dornan, said: “This is a massive boost to the squad and the project.  We have made enormous steps in the four years since we started playing. Moving up a division will be challenging but the players are ready to work hard and give us all they’ve got!

“Our two coaches, Sam Little and Joe Deverdics, are thrilled by the promotion and cannot wait for the hard session work to start!
“Our development ties in with our three year plan which is supported by Premier League / BT Disability funding.  We’re excited to be launching a Development squad, which we hope will also be playing Championship football in due course.”

From September Newcastle United Foundation will deliver two Power Chair Football sessions every Thursday evening at Percy Hedley Sports Academy. The Development team will train from 4.00 to 5.00pm and the First Team from 5.00 to 6.30pm.  Anyone interested in signing up for Power Chair Football should email reggie.dornan@nufc.co.uk
