Postcode Community Trust Extends ‘Building Futures’ Support

Newcastle United Foundation has been awarded £49, 985 by the Postcode Community Trust through its Community Life Fund. Postcode Community Trust is a grant-giving charity, funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

The cheque was presented by Calum Munro,Trust Officer at People’s Postcode Lottery to Kate Bradley, Head of Newcastle United Foundation during half time at Saturday’s fixture against Wigan Athletic at St. James’ Park.

The funding will be used to continue delivery of ‘Building Futures’, a project that breaks down barriers to sports participation faced by people in Newcastle, Gateshead, North Tyneside and Northumberland, as well as developing their skills, confidence and motivation to achieve goals for life.  The programme will expand into schools in addition to continuing delivery in community venues.

Funding will support Disability Football and Kicks, which offers free football to young people, as well as Match Fit and Family Learning, which are delivered in schools to promote healthy lifestyles and encourage sports participation.

Kate Bradley, Head of Newcastle United Foundation, said: “We’re delighted to have the continued support of the Postcode Community Trust, funded by players of People’s Postcode Lottery. ‘Building Futures’ has helped us make a difference to so many lives and this funding will enable us to engage with thousands more people from the most disadvantaged areas in our community.”

Clara Govier, Head of Charities at People’s Postcode Lottery, said: “We’re delighted that players of People’s Postcode Lottery are supporting Newcastle United Foundation’s ‘Building Futures’ programme. It’s fantastic that more young people will have the opportunity to take part in sport, at the same time as developing a range of skills that will help them in the future.”

When you sign up to play People’s Postcode Lottery, your postcode is your ticket. A minimum of 30% goes directly to charities across Great Britain and internationally. It costs £10 for 10 draws paid monthly in advance.
