PLAY ON THE PITCH: Foundation Launches 2017 Corporate Foundation Cup!

Newcastle United Foundation’s Play on the Pitch Fundraising Day will take place at St. James’ Park on Tuesday 23rd May and the first event to be confirmed is the return of the Foundation Cup, a five a side corporate tournament.

Sixteen teams will play a minimum of four games before the group winners go into the play offs to battle it out for the Foundation Cup.  This year’s event is jointly sponsored by Northumbria University Business School and Newcastle University Business School.

Last year’s winners Muckle LLP are already signed up to take on this year’s challengers! Teams are priced at £850.00 which includes food and drink after the final.

All funds raised will support Newcastle United Foundation programmes that engage, motivate and inspire almost 50,000 children and adults across Newcastle, Gateshead, North Tyneside and Northumberland.

Fundraising Officer Kelly Foster said: “We’re really excited to be hosting the Foundation Cup for a second year and we’re hugely grateful for the support of Northumbria University Business School and Newcastle University Business School.  Last year’s event was great fun but very competitive! The teams participating helped raise significant funds to support our work in the community and thanks to Newcastle United, who have kindly donated use of the pitch, we’re looking to raise even more this year!”

Professor John Wilson, Pro Vice Chancellor (Business and Law) at Northumbria University added:  “Northumbria University Newcastle is very happy to sponsor this event, as part of its general support for Newcastle United Foundation and all the terrific work it does in the community. We hope to build on this relationship in the future, ensuring that all activities bring as many benefits as possible.”

Newcastle University Business School’s Director of Corporate Engagement, Dr Anna Tilba commented: “Newcastle University Business School has supported Newcastle United Foundation events in the past and we are very happy to support this year’s Play on the Pitch Fundraising Day. This event not only raises much needed funds for the benefits of children in the North East but it also brings the community together and we are very proud to be part of this vibrant and thriving community.”
