PL4S Badminton And Table Tennis Competition Shows Off Regional Talent
Newcastle United Foundation hosted a Regional PL4S Badminton and Table Tennis competition for the third consecutive year at the impressive Tyneside Badminton Centre on Sunday (24 April).
Over 80 participants aged 13-16 years old took part across both sports with Newcastle United, Middlesbrough FC, Hull FC and Sunderland AFC represented by Foundation teams.
Participants were chosen from PL4S satellite clubs that they attend on a weekly basis to represent their individual Foundations as part of the PL4S project.
This annual competition gives the participants the opportunity to take part in their chosen sport in a competitive environment against other PL Clubs and more importantly, to put into practise what they learn on a weekly basis at their local satellite clubs.
Newcastle United Foundation’s Badminton team was victorious in their competition with Middlesbrough FC Foundation’s side taking the title in the Table Tennis competition.
Alan Cawthorne, PL4S Coordinator at Middlesbrough FC Foundation, said: “Today was another great PL4S event – our participants look forward to it every year. There was a lot of talent on show which is testament to the work our coaches are doing on a weekly basis.”
Newcastle United Foundation’s Senior Project Coordinator, Lisa Bell, added: “I’m really grateful to the other Foundation’s for bringing their teams to the competition. The young people involved have really benefited from playing against different opposition and we definitely see further improvement in their game over the course of the day. Congratulations to the Middlesbrough side on their win in the Table Tennis and a big well done to our Badminton participants for their success!”
