Newcastle United’s DeAndre Yedlin Goes Back To School With Tesco Bank Junior Players

Today, Wednesday 2nd May, Magpies star DeAndre Yedlin visited pupils from Ivy Road Primary School who were taking part in a Tesco Bank Junior Players coaching session led by Newcastle United Foundation.

The footballing star took the time to join in with the activity much to the delight of the budding young footballers.

Tesco Bank Junior Players is a flagship community coaching programme jointly led by the Foundation of Light, Newcastle United Foundation and Newcastle Eagles Community Foundation. The initiative gives school children in the North East the opportunity to get fit and active by taking part in physical activity and receiving expert tuition from highly qualified coaches. This unique programme is first time the three Foundations have collaborated on such a project.

Speaking on his visit, Newcastle’s DeAndre Yedlin said: “I really enjoyed coming along to Ivy Road this afternoon to see the pupils take part in this programme.

“I think it’s great that this project is encouraging so many young people to get involved in sport across the North East. Everyone looked like they were having fun which will only encourage them to continue taking part in physical activity, so well done to the Newcastle United Foundation, Tesco Bank and the other partners.”

Adele Mills, Tesco Bank Senior Community Investment Manager, said: “Having a footballing role model like DeAndre here today really helps encourage the children to play sport, have fun and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.

“It was wonderful to see the delight and excitement on their faces as he joined in on their session and I am pleased we were able to provide them with such a memorable experience.”
