Newcastle United Foundation shortlisted for Best Football Community Scheme

Newcastle United Foundation are delighted to have been named as finalists in the Best Football Community Scheme category at the Football Business Awards 2021.

The official charity arm of Newcastle United have been shortlisted for the award in recognition of a “clear commitment to the local community” and “innovative approaches” to supporting others, particularly throughout the Covid-19 crisis.

The Foundation currently delivers 43 individual community, employability, educational and health and wellbeing projects from Berwick to County Durham – reaching up to 66,000 people each year.

Within those programmes, the charity’s Be A Game Changer mental health awareness campaign has become a significant talking point among United supporters who have been inspired to talk openly about mental wellness through the initiative.

Providing support, guidance and signposting for mental health services, the campaign uses matchdays, men’s health workshops and physical and mental wellness sessions to reach those who rarely engage with traditional wellbeing campaigns but who are inspired by the Club crest.

Ultimately, Be A Game Changer aims to reduce the stigma around starting a conversation about mental health.

Newcastle United Foundation is in the running to receive a Gold, Silver or Bronze award in the Best Football Community Scheme category during a prestigious ceremony to be held in London on July 6, 2021.

Hosted annually, the Football Business Awards serve to celebrate the hard work, preparation and dedication of teams working behind the scenes in football to connect communities united by the sport and passion for their club.

A judging panel made up of individuals including Chief Executives of Football Clubs, Professional Football Associations and Grassroots Football Organisations will make a final decision on award winners in 20 categories.
