Newcastle CEO Sleepout - Postponed to Next Week

CEO Sleepout, Newcastle United Foundation and Changing Lives have taken the difficult decision to postpone tonight’s scheduled CEO Sleepout at St. James’ Park until next Thursday (8 March).

The organisers have been risk assessing the event since the beginning of the week. However, with travel conditions deteriorating further today and with the forecast for dangerous driving conditions both this evening and in the early hours of Friday morning, the organisers do not feel it is safe to ask those wishing to participate to travel to and from the Stadium.  The safety of those travelling to the event is paramount and the decision was not taken lightly.

In addition, all partners are very aware of the Severe Weather Emergency protocol. This is aimed at preventing deaths caused by people sleeping rough during winter. The Severe Weather emergency protocol comes into force when temperatures are forecast to be below zero for three consecutive days. This means that all agencies and organisations who support homeless and rough sleepers are working hard to prevent people from rough sleeping tonight.

Changing Lives have extra outreach staff guiding people to accommodation, they have crash pads and have converted office space as bed space. Tonight they will be focusing on working with the City Council and other charities to join up this emergency support.

The event will go ahead next week on Thursday 8th March and we hope all participants are still able to take part. If it is not possible to join us next week then we are inviting people to sign up for the CEO Sleepout in Durham on Monday 30 April. All sponsorship raised at this event will go towards charities and good causes tackling and preventing homelessness in and around Newcastle.
