National Team Call Up For Amputee Footballer!

Christopher McKitten, 17 from Gateshead, a player from Newcastle United Foundation’s Monday night Amputee Football Club has been named in the provisional Great Britain Squad.

The Great Britain Amputee Football Association has named its provisional squad for the 2016/17 season ahead of their preparations for the European Championships.  Chris has been involved in the Foundation Disability football programme since 2011, with his confidence and ability improving greatly over the last five years.

Chris lost his lower right leg following a battle with cancer and found that through the Foundation he could continue to play the game he loved.

Reggie Dornan, Disability Coach at Newcastle United Foundation, said, “This is a huge boost for our newly formed Amputee Football Club.  We only started the Club in September and Chris is already one of our leading players. This is fantastic news for Chris, we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for him. We also hope his call up will attract and inspire new players to join our club to represent Newcastle United in the National Amputee Football League”.

Newcastle United Foundation works with over 1300 children, young people and adults across our Disability football sessions each year.
