Meet The Girls Development Squads!

Newcastle United Foundation’s Girls Development Squads currently has 81 girls participating in weekly training sessions and we’d like to introduce you to the squads!

The U9’s team train at the Newcastle United First Team Training Centre with the remaining age groups, the U11’s, U13’s, U15’s and U17’s, sessions taking place at Coach Lane Campus.

Each of the girls play football for their grassroots club and come to the sessions to improve their tactical knowledge and skills development.

Open trials are held each year and the player pathway gives those who show talent the chance to progress through the age groups with the potential of making the transition into the Girls Development Centre’s set up in the U11, U13 or U15 categories.

Premier League Girls coaching also takes place in 12 secondary and middle schools, working with 142 girls to date, throughout North Tyneside, Newcastle, Gateshead and Northumberland and is aimed at girls aged 11-18 year old.

Lisa Bell, Women and Girls Football Lead at Newcastle United Foundation, said: “The girls in these squads have worked incredibly hard to get here and every week they put in a huge amount of effort to improve their football. I’m really proud of their passion and commitment to the game.

“Football is a great way to keep fit and make new friends – I would encourage any girls interested in doing the same to attend one of our Fun Days or keep an eye out for next year’s open trials.”
