Magpies’ Fan Claims Match Day Draw Prize

Newcastle United fan Kevin Pattison was celebrating after the Magpies’ 1-1 draw with Swansea City last month, as he claimed the top prize in the Foundation’s Match Day Draw competition.

From Ponteland, Kevin has supported the Magpies all his life after his father brought him to his first game when he was around ten years old. Although his memory of the game isn’t quite complete.

Kevin said, ‘I can’t remember who we were playing but I recall that ‘Pop’ Robson was my favourite player at the time.’

Following in his father’s footsteps Kevin has made going to watch Newcastle United a family affair. He attends every home game with his daughter Emily, as well as his two sons.

But attending games isn’t the only tradition. The family also make sure to buy Match Day Draw tickets from the Newcastle United Foundation at every game they attend, helping support some the Foundation’s many important projects. And the news that they had finally won, came as a bit of a shock.

‘We buy raffle tickets every game to support the Foundation. They do a great job!’ says Kevin.

‘To be honest, when Emily announced that we had the winning ticket, we didn’t really believe it as we have never won anything before! Obviously, when the news did sink in and our win was confirmed, it was a great feeling but we were a bit stunned.’

He added: ‘We are very fortunate to be able to watch the games from our corporate box and we try and support the Foundation as much as we can. As a family, we have always tried to support local good causes – particularly for youngsters and those with a sporting link as we are all keen participants in a number of sports and we all feel that sport at all levels can provide huge benefits to our lives. Aside from the obvious health benefits, sport brings people together, gives a huge sense of enjoyment and can be a great stress reliever.’

Now that Kevin and his family have won though what will they be spending their winnings on?

Kevin said: ‘Emily’s first reaction was to make a donation to charity or a worthwhile cause. We are still considering doing that but we will also use some of the money to spoil ourselves as a family… Although we aren’t quite sure how yet!’

You could be our next big winner! Look out for our Match Day Draw ticket sellers at every home game to be in with a chance of the top prize! By buying a ticket you’re supporting over 53,000 disadvantaged children, young people and families across the North East who benefit from our projects.
