Local funders pledge support to Newcastle United Foundation's Capital Project
Newcastle United Foundation’s capital project has continued to progress following substantial donations from Sir James Knott Trust and Catherine Cookson Charitable Trust.
The generous contributions will support the Foundation’s mission to build a state-of-the-art facility just a goal-kick away from St. James’ Park, with construction due to commence in September 2020. The centre will become a hub to support excellence in early years, school education, pathways into further, higher education and employment and improve the physical and mental well-being of people from across the region.
By pledging their financial support, both Trusts will help create a vibrant place for thousands of young people to access opportunities and improve their life chances, in a region where Sir James Knott and best-selling author, Dame Catherine were both brought up and resided.
Jo Curry, Executive Director of Sir James Knott Trust said: our Trustees are proud to be able to support this exciting initiative which will be of huge benefit to all communities across the region.”
Deputy Head of Newcastle United Foundation, Sarah Medcalf, said:
“This is an historic project for the Foundation and we’re thrilled that Sir James Knott Trust and Catherine Cookson Charitable Trust are going to a play a key role in helping us make it happen.
She added “In return for investing in the community, both Trusts will join a small and exclusive group of people and organisations that will enjoy a lifetime’s association with Newcastle United Foundation.”
The Foundation will begin construction in September 2020, with doors opening September 2021.
