Laying The Foundations Of Future Coaching Talent
Football coaches from Newcastle and Northumberland gathered at Cramlington Learning Village on Sunday for Newcastle United Foundation’s Coach the Coach Summer Convention, in partnership with the Northumberland FA.
The coaches gathered to hear tips and utilise the expertise of Joe Sargison (Level 5 FA Professional Coaches Award), Tim Dittmer (FA National Goalkeeping Coach Educator) and Ben Dawson (Newcastle United FC U21 Coach).
Not only were the sessions informative for the coaches, local youth footballers benefited from the experience as participants in the daylong showcase of coaching practices.
Joe Sargison, utilising NUFC Academy u12 and u13’s, led the first session which focused on ‘Coaching the individual within a group setting’. Red House Farm FC u15’s supported Tim Dittmer during his delivery of ‘Your Team, Your Goalkeeper’ and the u18s Northumberland County Schoolboys worked with Ben Dawson for the final session, ‘Developing your style of play – including roles and responsibilities in your formation – through the use of video analysis’.
The ‘Coach the Coach Clinics’ Initiative was set up in January 2011. Since then the partnership has run a series of monthly clinics which have been attended by over 500 coaches from all levels of the game. Clinics are open to all grassroots coaches regardless of coaching qualifications.
Newcastle United Foundation Football Development Manager, Giles Sandercock, said:
“It was fantastic to welcome so many coaches to our 5th annual Summer Convention. The aims of the convention are to educate, to encourage thinking and debate; and in my opinion, most importantly, to inspire the coaches in the room. We, as an organisation are especially keen to develop the younger and next generation of coaching talent, some of whom may well have been the players participating in our practical sessions today.
“I would like to thank our stellar line-up of presenters, Joe Sargison, Tim Dittmer and Ben Dawson for their time, and for delivering such diverse sessions using a range of engaging delivery styles.”
The next Coach the Coach Clinics, guest presenters to be confirmed, will be held on 28th August, 30th September and 27th November. For more information please check http://www.nufoundation.org.uk/football/coach-the-coach or follow us on Twitter @NU_Foundation
