Join us at Beamish every Thursday this Summer!

As part of Beamish’s Summer Fun Newcastle United Foundation will be running activities every Thursday in the events field at the museum.

“As we look towards the construction of our 1950s Town, we’re finding key stories from across the North East that we will bring to life through our work, the story of Newcastle’s tremendous success in the 1950s will be something we hope to explore further, so working with the Foundation is hugely exciting and we’re delighted to be supporting such a great cause, through the power of football!” said Matthew Henderson, Remaking Beamish – Engagement Development Officer.

Beamish has been supporting the Foundation’s Family Football project across the region, in local schools and community venues, with a total of 2,599 participants completing one of the 50 courses and fun days delivered across the year.

Beamish joined the Foundation at their bi-annual celebration event giving families an opportunity to learn more about the history of football, with some of the museum’s football collection on display, such as Edwardian football boots and a 1950s football magazine. Children involved in the project also had the opportunity to try on a replica Newcastle United football shirt from the 1950s, an important decade for the team as they won the FA cup not once, not twice but three times!

Beamish also offered all families involved a community rate to visit the museum.

“We are delighted to be working with Beamish to support the delivery of our foundation programmes, as well as through the engagement of families at Beamish in the summer holidays. It is an ideal opportunity to put into practice the skills that they have learnt through the family learning programmes, as well as positively interacting with hundreds of new families at the museum. We’re really excited to have put this partnership in place and look forward to it growing over the years.”, added Adam Herczeg, Senior Project Officer at Newcastle United Foundation.
