Girls Football Trials
Over 100 girls attend Newcastle United Foundation Player Development Centre Trials.
Girls’ football is alive and kicking in the region after 120 girls turned out for the annual Player Development Centre (PDC) trials at Coach Lane Campus, Northumbria University.
One hundred and twenty girls aged seven to 16 attended to bag a place in one of the Development Centre Squads starting in September for under 9’s, 11’s, 13’s, 15’s and 17’s.
The PDC is run in partnership with Northumberland FA and is aligned to the FA Talent Pathway to identify players of excellent ability and place them in a technical and educational programme, which is designed to develop football excellence in tandem with personal development. The Long Term Player Development ethos aims to develop the all-round fundamental skills of the individual, including TECHNICAL, PHYSICAL, MENTAL, SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE skills.
All girls already play for a local junior football club and being part of the programme complements rather than conflicts their club training and fixtures.
Michelle Pattinson, mum of Paris who attended the under 13 trials said:
“Paris has attended the Player Development Centre for the last couple of years and it has helped her become a better player and a more confident person both on and off the pitch.”
“The coaching staff have played a vital part in Paris’s development which I thank them for.”
Nicola Hepworth from Northumberland FA said:
“This is our third season delivering the FA Girl’s Player Development Centre in partnership with Newcastle United Foundation. It is great to see so many talented girl’s from the area at the trials each year. “
“We look forward to another successful season of training and fixtures against other FA Player Development Centres in the Region. I would like to wish all of the players the best of luck for the coming season.”
The next trial will be held on Friday 15th August at Coach Lane Campus, Northumbria University.
