Foundation Takes Kicks To Berwick
Newcastle United Foundation is set to roll out its hugely popular Kicks progamme in Berwick this summer.
Kicks offers free football sessions to youngsters aged 12-19 and will begin in Berwick on Friday 17 July after a successful trial last October. The sessions will be held at Swan Leisure Centre from 6.00-9.00pm. The Foundation has employed two local coaches to deliver the sessions and is working in partnership with Four Housing.
Newcastle United Foundation currently works with over 600 participants through Kicks each year, using football as a means to help them achieve their own life goals. Coaching sessions and educational workshops take place twice a week, 48 weeks of the year.
The aim is to engage young people in constructive activities, increase playing and coaching opportunities, break down barriers between the police and young people and reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.
Kicks Project Co-ordinator Laura Wilson, who has been up in Berwick promoting the sessions at school assemblies over the last few weeks, said: “We see first hand how much of a difference Kicks makes to the lives of the young people we work with and I’m so pleased that we’re now offering these sessions in Berwick. Kicks is a great opportunity for participants to have fun, make new friends and learn valuable life skills. Anyone that wants to come along should turn up on the 17th July and I’m sure they’ll be back week after week!”
