Newcastle United Foundation’s Annual Report is our chance to share the exceptional stories of people we helped in 2015/16.

It is because of the extraordinary power of football in the North East that we are able to engage almost 50,000 participants every year in our schools, community and sports programmes, using the Newcastle United brand and football to change lives.

This year we are privileged to have worked with an international Award Winning Advertising & Editorial Photographer and Director. Alex Telfer, a North East native, is known for his stunning portraiture and has worked with some of the world’s most admired sporting personalities.

We are excited to share the images he has taken of some of the Foundation’s unknown and unsung heroes – individuals who we have helped to make significant changes in their lives. The concept of ‘marginal gains’ has had remarkable results in sport. By making small, incremental changes or improvements, an athlete, player or team can become world beating.

Using that same concept, Foundation coaches and project staff are the driving force behind the achievements you will read about in this report. They are passionate about helping local people take small steps to make big changes, using football to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary, to turn dreams into goals, on the pitch, in the classroom and in life.

The stories in this report are just a fraction of the 50,000 people we reach every season. Here, at St James’ Park, in the centre of Newcastle, in what some call the far corner of the country, we have a unique opportunity to do something special. But we need your help to continue and grow our work.

Thank you to our two biggest supporters, Newcastle United Football Club and the Premier League, plus all of our funders and partners.

Kate Bradley
Head of Newcastle United Foundation
