Foundation Ladies Walking Football Team Victorious!

Newcastle United Foundation’s Female Walking Football team claimed the winner’s trophy at their very first tournament last weekend.

The 6 a side tournament took place at the Uclan Sports Arena in Preston with 10 teams taking part in the over 40’s tournament.

The Foundation side was unbeaten throughout the tournament, facing Bolton Ambassadors, Liverpool Feds (B), Crawley and Phoenix Futsal in the group stages, scoring 21 goals and only conceding 1!

After beating Liverpool Feds (A) in the semi final the Magpies went on to beat Phoenix Futsal 3-0 in the final.

Newcastle’s Sarah Renton finished the competition as top scorer with 12 goals to her name, narrowly beating Lisa Bell.

The squad included Anna Milburn, Sarah Renton, Tracy Mallam, Lisa Bell, Amanda Thompson (over 40’s), Hannah Collins and Rachael Mead (under 30’s) making up the squad. In this tournament one under 30 player was permitted on the pitch at any one time.

Lisa Bell, Senior Project Co-ordinator at Newcastle United Foundation and Walking Footballer, said: “It was brilliant to go to our first tournament and win.  The team is relatively new and their commitment has been excellent. We played really well and I think we can only get better, the more we play together.  We’re always looking for new recruits so anyone that is interested in getting involved should definitely come along to a free session!”
