Foundation Donates Unclaimed Lottery Winnings To The Sick Children’s Trust

The Magpie’s official charity donated £3k of unclaimed lottery winnings to The Sick Children’s Trust’s Crawford House at the RVI.

Every match day, Foundation sellers approach the corporate customers within St James’ Park to enter them in a chance of winning £500, a ball boy/boy girl place or a signed ball.

With the unclaimed prize money for last season, the Foundation donated the winnings to help improve the family accommodation at Newcastle’s biggest hospital.

The Sick Children’s Trust provides free, high quality ‘Home from Home’ accommodation, as well as emotional and practical support to families with sick children in hospital. They believe that keeping families together significantly improves the recovery of seriously ill children.

With the money donated, the staff have revamped some of the rooms by replacing old mattresses and curtains for patients and their families. Volunteers have been assisting the refurbishment, and families have already commented on the dramatic difference it has made.

Gail Stonley, House Manager at The Sick Children’s Trust said:

“Our families are thrilled with the comfort of the new rooms, and finding it much easier to sleep with the new, darker curtains”

“We are so grateful for the help and generosity of the Foundation to The Sick Children’s Trust.”

Acting Head of the Foundation, Keith Nicholson added:

“We are delighted to be able to make this donation to such a valuable cause.

“Having an ill child is such a stressful time and the facilities and staff at The Sick Children’s Trust make these difficult times a little easier for parents and families.”
