Foundation Deliver Football For All Session To 450 Pupils At Excelsior Academy
Newcastle United Foundation delivered its innovative Football for All session to a record 450 pupils at Excelsior Academy on Wednesday.
Four educational sessions were held throughout the day, with the pupils also benefitting from participating in Disability football taster sessions which gave them personal experience of the challenges that people with a disability can face when participating in sport.
Football for All raises awareness of Disability football with the aim of educating children about the differences between standard football and the adapted blind and deaf versions of the game. The children learn about the tailored rules, the different equipment used as well as being encouraged to share their experiences of disability sport.
The Football for All programme is funded by the Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner.
Vera Baird said:
“I’m delighted to once again be associated with the work of Newcastle United Foundation.
“It’s important that we continue to reach out to young people, showing them that each and every one of them is valued and that they can achieve great things.”
Newcastle United Foundation Project Manager, Andrew Foster, commented:
“This is a relatively new project that pupils love participating in and it has gone down equally well in schools.
“The feedback we’ve had has been hugely positive and we’re delighted that we’ve been able to engage with so many children today. It’s great to see them participating so enthusiastically and genuinely being interested in learning about disability sport.”
