Foundation Celebrates Year Of Postcode Community Trust Support

Newcastle United Foundation’s Building Futures programme, supported by the Postcode Community Trust, has worked with 2587 people in the last year, almost double the number of participants originally targeted.

Building Futures has supported Disability football and Kicks to help young people and adults develop their skills, confidence and motivation to achieve life goals.

The programme has worked in 36 Special Educational Needs (SEN) Schools coaching 563 children, as well as delivering after school sessions.  Weekly adult disability sessions were enjoyed by 245 people and a further 1350 participants were involved in Disability fixtures across the year.

Jamie Foster, a Visually Impaired Footballer, has benefitted hugely from the Disability programme. Watch his story below.

The Postcode Community Trust’s support of Kicks has seen the programme launch a new session at Gateshead Football Club as well as enabling the expansion of the sessions already delivered at Wideopen, Berwick and Gateshead Redheugh.

Almost 500 young people have engaged in these football sessions as well as benefitting from guidance and advice from our lifestyle programme.  There were 18 opportunities throughout the year for young people to engage in football tournaments, many of which gave the players the chance to represent Newcastle United in the local community and across the UK.

One cohort completed their Sports Leaders Awards, inspired by the story of the Dack Twins, who have recently been awards the Young Leader Award by the Foundation. Watch their story below.

Head of Newcastle United Foundation, Kate Bradley, said: “The support from the Postcode Community Trust has helped us make a huge impact across our Disability football and Kicks sessions in Newcastle, Gateshead, North Tyneside and Northumberland.  It’s been a really positive first year of what we hope will be a long term partnership that will continue to help young people and adults raise their aspirations and achieve their goals.”

People’s Postcode Lottery is a charity lottery, where players play with their postcodes to win cash prizes while raising money for good causes. It costs £10 for 10 draws paid monthly in advance. A minimum of 30% goes directly to charities across Great Britain and internationally.
