Foundation Celebrates Launch Of Newcastle United LGBT+ Fans Group

Newcastle United Foundation celebrated the launch of United with Pride, the official NUFC LGBT+ fans group, with a five-a-side football tournament.

Six teams took part in the competition at Walker Activity Dome, with representatives from Newcastle Panthers, Northumbria University, and Newcastle United Women. The Foundation also had two teams in the tournament, including participants from our Street Football programme, as well as Foundation staff.

It was a day of celebration but that didn’t stop the quality of football being high throughout, with the team from Northumbria University eventually winning the day.

United with Pride are now working in partnership with both Newcastle United and the Foundation to make football more accessible to LGBT+ fans. You can find them on social media, on Facebook and Twitter. (add link)

The Foundation already work closely with LGBT + football team Newcastle Panthers, with coaches attending monthly to help develop skills.

Jill Stacey, Football Development Officer at the Foundation, said: ‘We’re very proud to be supporting the launch of United with Pride.’

‘Everything we do here at the Foundation is working towards making football accessible to everyone and the introduction of an official LGBT+ supporter’s group is a step towards making Newcastle United and football as a whole more welcoming to LGBT+ supporters.’
