Foundation Badminton Teams Take Home Trophy!
Newcastle United Foundationโs boys and girls Badminton teams were victorious at last weekendโs Regional Premier League 4 Sport Badminton tournament at Thornaby Pavilion, Middlesbrough.ย
The Foundation entered an under 16โs boys and girls team alongside teams from the Foundation of Light, Hull FC Tigers Trust and organisers Middlesbrough Foundation.ย
All participants attendย PL4S badminton satellite clubs that take place in various schools across the region on a weekly basis.
Newcastle came out on top in a very close final against local rivals Sunderland in both the boys and girls section. The players from all Clubs put in a huge amount of effort which was reflected in the excellent badminton skills on show.
Steve Sharp, Newcastle United Foundation Badminton coach said โIt was a brilliant day for everyone involved including coaches and supporters. It is vital that players get the opportunity to take part in competitive badminton and the PL4S programme provides them with this opportunity, they turn up to weekly badminton satellite clubs so to play against other football clubs is a great way to put into practise what they learn on a weekly basis. We will be working hard over the next few months to prepare the squad for the National Badminton event that will take place at the home of Badminton in Milton Keynes in Mayโ
Mark Perry,ย father of Under 16 player Will Perry said “My son returned from this event having thoroughly enjoyed the day. He loved the teamwork that he felt very much part of and to come away as victors after such a tense and nail-biting finale against their local rivals Sunderland just topped off the day. Huge thanks to all involved”.
