From 5th to 15th December, football will commemorate and celebrate the spirit of the Christmas Truce football matches of 1914 by taking part in a photographic event called ‘A Moment in History’.
The Newcastle United team who lined up against Chelsea on Saturday posed together with the Match Officials in a pre-match group photograph. The Club then uploaded the photo via social media using the hashtag #FootballRemembers. All photos will be displayed on a special website called www.FootballRemembers.com.
The aim of the website is to act as a moment of national record of football in 2014, a century on from the First World War. The photos will be preserved for future generations in the digital archives of the British Library.
The photographs kick off ‘Football Remembers Week’. This is a series of Christmas Truce related events running from Friday 5 December to Monday 15 December, and being delivered jointly by the Premier League, The FA and the Football League, in partnership with the British Council.
Local schools and junior teams should create their own ‘Moment in History’ by uploading a photo of their team to www.FootballRemembers.com. Any match of any size and age group can be uploaded.
