Family Football Celebrate With Shola
Over 300 families attended Newcastle United Foundation’s annual Family Football Celebration event, with special guest Shola Ameobi, at St James Park last night.
Family Football, delivered at schools, uses the power of football to bring families together to enjoy learning. The sessions are split into one hour learning in the classroom and one hour activity.
So far this year, the Foundation has delivered 31 Family Football Courses in local schools and community venues. A total of 657 people completed a course and 610 have taken part in one of the family learning workshops or fun days.
At last night’s celebration each participant was awarded a certificate with four stand out awards also handed out by Shola, which were:
Young Learner of the Year: Joe McGinty from Denbigh School
Adult Learner of the Year: Chris Milburn from Atkinson Road School
Family of the Year: The Janoway Family from Seaton Sluice Primary school
School of the Year: Brighton Avenue
Newcastle United Foundation Patron Shola Ameobi said: “I’m really privileged to have been able to celebrate with the families here tonight. It’s been wonderful to hear about their accomplishments through Family Learning – they are a real credit to the programme.
“As a Patron it’s fantastic to come and see just how much of an impact the Foundation and its staff has in the local community.”
Family Football has been funded by the Big Lottery Fund since 2009 with support from the Premier League since 2013.
