Dwight Gayle named as Foundation Ambassador for Disability Football

Newcastle United Foundation is excited to announce Newcastle United’s Dwight Gayle as our Ambassador for Disability Football.

Dwight approached the Foundation’s Disability Development Officer, Reggie Dornan, at the end of last season to determine how he could support the Foundation’s work with disabled children and has since met the charity’s PowerChair and DS Active players.

The Foundation’s Disability programme is supported by the Premier League / BT Disability Fund, The FA, The Postcode Community Trust and local partners such as Northumberland FA, The Children’s Foundation and Northumbria Police Charity Fund.

The charity delivers free weekly training sessions for children and adults including Visually Impaired, Deaf, Blind, Amputee, Downs Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, PowerChair and Frame football.  The Foundation works with over 2,378 participants on this project alone every year.

Reggie Dornan, Newcastle United Foundation Disability Development Officer, said: “It is amazing to have Dwight’s support. The players love it when he comes to sessions – his presence has a really positive impact on the players we’re developing.  I can’t thank Dwight enough for the time he has already committed to us and for helping to raise awareness of the work we do across the North East.”

Dwight Gayle added: “I was interested to see what the Foundation did for people with Disabilities and when I went to see some of the football sessions I was really impressed. The opportunities for the players are fantastic and the coaches are really committed to getting the best out of everyone on the pitch.  I’m really proud to be the Foundation’s Ambassador for Disability football – I think they do an amazing job and if I can help encourage more people with disabilities to get involved – I will.”
