Coach The Coach – New CPD Events Launched
Coaches in the North East can look forward to an exciting 2016, after a new programme of CPD events was launched providing more opportunities for coaches at all levels.
“Coach The Coach” – a partnership set up in 2011 between Newcastle United Foundation, Northumberland FA and NFPSoccer– has led the way as the vehicle for coaches’ development and since its formation, with over 50 events to date including guest presenters such as Franco Baresi, Chris Coleman, Ricky Sbragia, Lee Clark, Dick Bate, Michael O’Neill, Noel Blake and Gareth Southgate to name just a few. These events have always been a fantastic experience for those in attendance, and to reach an even larger audience we feel the coaches would benefit if we offered these type of events to local clubs and that is now the route we will trial in 2016.
Newcastle United Foundation will continue hosting a successful series of events showcasing the excellent work they do throughout the region and providing coaches with even more learning opportunities.
Giles Sandercock, Football Development Manager, said “Through the Coach the Coach partnership we are committed to offering coaches in our region access to the very best resources and opportunities to develop their skills. It has been fantastic to work with so many top quality individuals through the programme so far and we’re excited for the opportunities that 2016 bring, by making the events more accessible and supporting our mission to develop the next generation of coaching talent with the aim of finding candidates that may go on to become future coaching leaders within our organisation.”
In December 2014, The FA launched the England DNA with the ultimate aim of creating winning teams. This evolving philosophy will form the basis for a number of the new workshops to be delivered locally, with clubs having a choice of which areas they would like to see presented.
This strand of the programme will be led by the Northumberland FA, with Football Development Officer Ian Skinner commenting ”By bringing the CPD events into the communities and clubs, we’re really hopeful of providing a CPD programme that is appropriate and accessible for all. Our Charter Standard Clubs will have a big role to play in hosting these events and with a number of them already committed attendees at Coach The Coach clinics. We’re sure they will welcome the opportunity to have experienced presenters in their clubs. The players will also receive the benefit of some extra coaching, so there really is a benefit for all”.
The FA’s County Coach Developer, Adam Furness, will oversee the programme of events ensuring that FA Licensed Coaches can receive the annual CPD hours required and with more clinics taking place around the County, coaches will be free to attend any workshop of interest. “Whilst we’re taking the events to the clubs and working in specific hub areas, we must stress that anyone can attend. Everyone will be welcome and we’re looking forward to seeing lots of coaches for the first time”.
In what promises to be a fantastic year for coaches in the area, two showcase “Coach The Coach” conventions will take place in 2016.
