Celebrating Family Learning Success

Participants of Newcastle United Foundation’s Family Learning programme gathered at St James’ Park last night after successfully completing the course.

This particular 12 week Family Learning course gave parents the opportunity to achieve their Level 1 Certificate in Personal and Social Development.

In the first hour of each session parents studied and completed workshops, working towards the NCFE qualification, while the children received specialised football coaching. For the second hour parents joined children playing football.

After being presented with their qualification certificates the group enjoyed a tour around the stadium.

Participant Lyndsay Wandless said: “Family Learning has been a great chance for me and my daughter to do something together. Spending time with her and having fun is really important and it’s been brilliant that I’ve been able to study for the certificate at the same time. It’s definitely made me feel like I’m progressing and helps me have a healthier lifestyle.

“I’ve been involved in a few Foundation projects and I would totally recommend them. The coaches are great and you really feel like you’re part of a footballing family with all the other parents and children. It helps build relationships in our community because when you’re at the school gates you have a reason to chat to each other.”

Newcastle United Foundation Project Coordinator Mark Bertram added: “Congratulations to everyone that received their certificate. This group has been really brilliant and it’s great to see them all doing so well, they should be very proud. We’re pleased that so many want to sign up for future Foundation courses!”
