BTEC Sport: Seven Reasons To Choose The Newcastle United Foundation

How would you like to represent Newcastle United in a national league? Looking for a career in coaching? Want to develop your skills alongside professional coaches? Our BTEC Sport course ticks all the boxes to kick off your career in sport!

But just in case you still aren’t convinced, we’ve put together 7 reasons we think you should apply for the BTEC Sport qualification at Newcastle United Foundation.

1. Represent Newcastle United in a National Futsal League

First of all, it’s not all studying!

Alongside your studies you will also have the opportunity to develop your football skills and participate in our weekly Futsal fixture.

What’s more, you’ll be representing Newcastle United in a national league!

The only recognized form of indoor football endorsed by the FA, UEFA and FIFA, Futsal is one of the fastest growing, indoor, five-a-side sports in the world!

Games take place on Wednesday afternoons where you will travel from St James Park to Sheffield to take on Futsal teams from across the country!

2. Study for Professionally Recognized Qualifications

The course has been designed to cover a huge variety of modules, giving you with all the skills and qualifications required for a career in coaching.

You’ll also work towards Level 1 FA Coaching and Level 1 Futsal Coaching qualifications alongside your BTEC.

You’ll even leave with Emergency First Aid and Safeguarding Certificates, which are compulsory requirements to gain access onto the next stage of FA courses!

3. Learn From Experienced Trained Coaches

Our professionally trained coaches work with module leaders from Newcastle College to make sure you get exactly what you need from us to succeed.

The course is delivered by experienced staff who will get the best out of you through enjoyable and productive lessons.

4. Unrivalled Work Experience

We won’t lie to you, coaching is a difficult industry to break into; and work experience is key to gaining employment and making yourself stand out from the crowd!

Although there is some theory work involved, most of your time will be spent out on the pitches coaching the Newcastle United Foundation youth teams and learning as you go.

Not only that, just three months after starting your course you’ll be heading out to local schools and charities to take coaching sessions there as well!

5. Progression, Progression, Progression!

Once you’ve completed the course, you’ll leave with qualifications matching the entry requirements at universities!

On top of your new qualifications, being able to say you have gained work experience with a Premier League football club always looks great on a university application and a CV.

University not for you? No worries! Your Level 1 FA Coaching, Emergency First Aid and Safeguarding Certificates enable you to apply directly to the Level 2 FA Coaching course. And that’s before we even get to…

6.Get Employed

Not all of our students decide to continue their studies and that’s fine! The course will give you all the tools you need to seek employment in every area of the sports industry!

Each student is different. Many of our students go on to have great coaching careers, but previous students have also chosen career paths within sports science, sports facilities management, personal training or even teaching. The possibilities are endless!

We even offer a guaranteed interview with Newcastle United Foundation, so if you put the effort in, the course may well turn out to be the beginning of your career at Newcastle United.

7. Continued Career Support even after you leave!

Just because your time with us has come to an end doesn’t mean you are left to fend for yourself. Our team will continue to support you with CV writing, job searching, interview tips and advice on progression, enabling you to make the best decisions possible for your career.
