Berwick Kicks participants complete Refereeing course

A team of participants from Berwick Kicks recently completed a refereeing course which will allow them to give back to the local community by refereeing mini soccer games.

Supported by the Bernicia Group, which encompasses Four Housing, the seven young people from Berwick Kicks were invited to attend a session delivered by Newcastle United Foundation at the Swan Centre.

Designed to provide an overview of the basic rules of the game, the full-day course looked at the practical and theoretical aspects of refereeing and saw each participant complete an exam to test what they had learned.

Regan Graham, one of the Newcastle United Foundation coaches delivering the course, said: “It was fantastic to see the seven participants so engaged with the session. It was evident that they had a passion for football and were keen to develop their skills.”

Gillian Buchan, customer engagement officer at Bernicia, added: “Our community development fund aims to improve the area in which we operate, and we’re thrilled that we have been able to support these youngsters and provide them with new skills which they can pass on to others.”
