Bernicia Housing Continue PL Kicks Funding

Newcastle United Foundation is delighted to announce Bernicia Housing have agreed to fund Premier League Kicks in Berwick for another year.

They have donated £10,000, matching their funding last year, and ensuring the future of Kicks in the area for another year.

The money will go towards equipment, cost of venue hire, and staff costs allowing us to provide free football for young children in the area and community projects.

PL Kicks aims to use the power of sport to improve the lives of young children in hard to reach areas; allowing them to develop their social skills through football.

The initiative allows the Foundation to deliver free football sessions at 12 different venues across Newcastle, North Tyneside, Gateshead and Northumberland.

118 children are currently signed up in Berwick with 40 young players attending each week.

Bernicia Housing is a charitable business that provides homes and estate services to over 60,000 people in the North East. Part of their mission is to try and improve the services available to people living in the North East and listen to the requirements of the communities in which they operate.

Rachel Bickerdike, Business Development Manager at Newcastle United Foundation said: “We are very grateful for the generosity of Bernicia Housing as they continue to support the PL kicks programme for another year.”

“The funding they provide will be vital in allowing us to continue our work in the Berwick community.”

Jeannie McMillan, Bernicia Director of Housing Services, said: “The Berwick Kicks project is hugely successful in bringing the local community together through the passion people have for Newcastle United.

“The aim of the project to improve young people’s lives through the power of sport, reflects the objective we have at Bernicia of investing in neighbourhoods and communities through our new corporate strategy ‘Housing People, Helping People.’

“We look forward to seeing the Berwick project with the Newcastle United Foundation continue to go from strength to strength.”
