Be A Game Changer: Tackling 'January blues'
January can be a difficult time for all of us.
Miserable weather and barren bank accounts on a post-Christmas comedown can quickly turn the first month of the year into a long and lonely 31 days.
But this January, Newcastle United Foundation β the official charity arm of Newcastle United β is challenging everyone to Be A Game Changer with their mental health awareness campaign.
Be A Game Changer uses the passion for football to engage thousands of supporters, encouraging them to talk more openly about their mental wellbeing.
The Foundation can help you, too, with a few simple changes that can really boost your mood and ensure you start 2020 feeling your best self.
- Connect
Meet up with a mate, get in touch with family and spend time with the ones you care about.
Surrounding ourselves with loved ones makes us feel good, so why not do more of it? Sometimes, one conversation is all it takes to put a smile on your face.
If you donβt feel you have anyone to talk to though, reach out to Samaritans. They are always there to listen if you need them. Call 116 123 for free at any time.
- Be Active
Wrap up warm and head outside. Fresh air, exercise or just a brisk walk can do wonders for your state of mind.
Here at St. Jamesβ Park, the Foundation also has lots of opportunities for you to get moving with free and supervised activities across the North East, such as Walking Football. Visit our Health and Wellbeing pages to see how we can help.
- Give Back
There is a lot to be said for giving your time to someone else. Volunteering is a great way of building your self-esteem and knowing that your skills and support are sorely needed and highly value.
Countless charities, community groups and organisations need you. In return for your time, youβll learn something new and get to know a new circle of friends β all while being part of something great.
