Baresi Holds Tyneside Coaching Clinic
Italian football legend Franco Baresi was at St. James’ Park on Friday to pass on his expertise to the North-East’s coaching talent.
The former AC Milan defender, who won the World Cup, three European Cups and six Serie A titles among other accolades during a hugely successful playing career, was on Tyneside to lead a Coach the Coach day in conjunction with Newcastle United Foundation and Azzuri Sports Management.
One-hundred-and-twenty-three coaches attended the all-day event, with some travelling from as far afield as London and even South Africa to hear the Rossoneri’s youth team coach deliver a presentation and coaching demonstration on the art of defending.
The event started at St. James’ Park, where Baresi addressed the coaches and answered questions before heading over to United’s Little Benton Academy, where the 54-year-old delivered a masterclass for the benefit of all present.
“It’s been a pleasure to be here again after the Milan Glorie game for Steve Harper‘s testimonial. Today there is a really good cause too and it gives me great pleasure to help,” he said.
“I have to say thanks to Newcastle, the people of Newcastle and the team of Newcastle because it gave me a really nice feeling last year and it’s been a nice feeling also today.
“This success with Milan Glorie has been really nice, and today I hope that everybody enjoyed this day and had fun and had a great day.
“It was a good participation of the people, a lot of questions and a lot of curiosity, so the people were involved. I enjoyed it and it was really interesting also to share all these experiences.”
