Barclays Team Raise £15823 For Newcastle United Foundation
Seventeen bankers from Barclays Corporate North East in Newcastle cycled 72 miles from Seahouses in Northumberland to their new offices on the Quayside last month.
Cyclists battled gruelling conditions but made it to the finish line. The cycle was in aid of the Magpie’s official charity, raising funds to help disadvantaged children, young people and their families across the region.
The Barclays Cycle Team consisted of Brian Thorpe, Tony Doughty, David Collins, Scot Howie, Martin Rankin, John Ainsworth, Paul Merone, Stuart Egan, Julian Batson, Gill Duke, Janice Grinton, Suzanne Nichol, David Foreman, Simon Patterson, David Clark, Jamie Corcoran and Steve Coltman. They were backed along the route by Benfield Motors who supplied a support vehicle.
Brian Thorpe, Regional Director North East and Cumbria said:
‘We are delighted with the amount raised for Newcastle United Foundation and would like to thank everyone who supported us to make this happen. Alongside our 5 Million Young Futures commitment, Barclays has a fantastic community investment programme that encourages employees to get involved in the causes we care about. It’s about giving back our skills, time and energy to support our local communities – so we’re thrilled to have raised this money.’
Kate Bradley, Head of Newcastle United Foundation said:
‘We would like to thank the Barclays team for nominating the Foundation to benefit from this challenge. This fantastic donation will go towards supporting disadvantaged children and young people in the North East.”
