Albert Franks Collects Hall Of Fame Award For Bobby Mitchell
Former Newcastle United player Albert Franks collected Bobby Mitchellโs Hall of Fame award last week.
Franks, a former left half who was renowned for the length of his throw-ins, played alongside Mitchell in the 1950s:
โItโs a pleasure to collect this on behalf of Bobby Mitchell.ย I played alongside him and often shared a room with him.ย He was very well respected not only as a player but as a man.โ
โBobby was a brilliant footballer and I believe he would get in any Newcastle United team, even in todayโs modern game – he was just that good.โ
โIt is unbelievable to look back at the past and see the history of the football club. ย It is a pleasure to be invited along today and celebrate Bobby Mitchell’s achievements for Newcastle United.’
Bobby Mitchell joins Bill McCracken, Malcolm Macdonald and Frank Brennan as the latest inductees in the Foundationโs Hall of Fame.
Toon Times project coordinator, Gavin Ferry added
โTo celebrate the final week of the exhibition it seemed a fitting time to induct further legends into the Foundationโs Hall of Fame.โ
โMalcolm Macdonald, Bobby Mitchell and Bill McCracken all shaped the history of Newcastle United and itโs only right that we recognise their achievements.โ
